How it started
Coral was founded by Joe Coral in 1926. At first, the business ran only as a credit office but, by 1961, it had grown into an offline chain offering illegal – at the time – betting services to enthusiasts. By 1971 it had expanded to other business ventures such as hotels, casinos squash clubs and real estate. As such, it attracted interest from big investors and, in 1981, Coral was acquired by Bass PLC. Fifteen years later, it was sold to Ladbrokes for £363 million, but the UK government ordered Ladbrokes to sell Coral for breaking fair trading laws. The company changed its name to Coral Eurobet after acquiring the Eurobet bookmaker, a Gibraltar betting company, adding dozens of new offline shops to its inventory. In 2015, Coral once again merged with Ladbrokes and was later sold to GVC Holdings, who continue to run both bookmakers to present day.
Today, Coral is the third largest bookmaker in the UK, holding a fifth of the UK market and having close to 1800 offline premises scattered around the isles, Italy and other countries.
Website Usability
- Simple and clear layout
- Easy Navigation
- Appealing overall design
- Full-control user platform
The Coral website stands out with its solid design and ease of navigation. You can locate the main sports sections on the left side, while all of the daily events and their odds are seen clearly on the home page when you visit the site.
What separates Coral from other bookmakers is their ‘My Coral’ feature, which allows users to personalise how they view and use the website. This is great because some people may not wish to see all of the markets available on the site. They can simply adjust the settings so the focus is only on the markets they are interested in.
Overall, Coral’s website has this ‘finished’ feel that often trots along with the investment of a lot of effort and resources. It encourages a convenient and pleasurable betting experience.
Sports Markets Covered
Are you above 18 years old? If you are, Coral’s betting world is tall and wide enough to get lost in, but, as you may know, these little pearls only you know exist are often uncovered in places where we could get lost! The Coral pre-match betting platform is packed with markets that punters of any age above 18 can explore and bet on. For example, for younger bettors, there is eSports, where bets can be placed on popular games such as Dota, CS:GO, League of Legends, Overwatch, and many other games.
Punters with different interests are also cared for. There’s practically no shortage of sports. To list some: badminton, moto sports, football, American sports, hurling, ice hockey, tennis, table tennis, politics, TV shows, and even Sumo – you get the picture!
Of course, as one of the largest UK betting companies, Coral’s strongest emphasis remains on king football, as well as on British traditions such as horse and greyhound racing, where you would regularly find encouraging odds and equally sweetened promotions. Give it a go!
In-Play Betting
Coral’s in-play is one of the most developed platforms out there. It has undergone a major revamp in recent years and, as a result, has turned into a first-choice for many punters. The in-play football market is especially popular as it has great variety and depth. You can enjoy placing bets on all major European Leagues, including the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga and La Liga, and dive deep into leagues from elsewhere or more obscure local leagues. The reserve of matches to bet on literally never runs out!
Other sports with equally impressive depth of coverage include tennis, table tennis, horse and greyhound racing, rugby, virtual sports and eSports.
Coral Features
Coral Connect – This is a very useful feature that not many bookmakers have. It allows punters to take full advantage of Coral’s resources – both offline and online. For example, they can make a deposit at an offline premise and have the money transferred to their online account, or vice versa. They can also use the Coral Connect card to withdraw their winnings from an ATM.
Coral Radio – For those who do not wish to pay to watch an event live, the Coral radio service provides comprehensive coverage of many sports events in addition to music, news and analysis.
In-Play – You can follow any Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga or Seria A game (among a host of other major and minor leagues) via Coral’s live streaming service and place your bet at any time during the game!
Cash Out – Tried and tested, the Cash Out feature is a hallmark of a good ‘live betting’ practice and experience. Coral has it. It allows punters to end their bets prematurely – to avoid further losses or secure winnings.
Live Streaming – Coral are licenced to provide a live streaming service on a multitude of sports – over 2000 events a week are available! Simply place a bet on an event of your choice and click the ‘Watch Live’ button.
Mobile Betting – One of the best perks of Coral is that they have a well-developed mobile platform that allows for quick and easy bets.
Watch Free – Not all events require a bet for full access to their live stream. With Coral’s ‘Watch Free’ feature, you can watch selected events on your mobile or tablet for free! Just locate the events with the button ‘Watch Free’ and click on it, and you’ll be taken to a dedicated page with the live stream.
Odds
While Coral still have some catching up to do to offer their customers the most competitive odds, their odds are decent across all sports and pretty good for football and horse racing. Then there is the question of how their merger with Ladbrokes is going to affect the odds they give out. There is definitely some room for improvement, and we hope to see it soon.
Coral Casino
Coral run their casino very smartly. Undoubtedly, they are aware that they have some catching up to do to gain on some other bookies in terms of diversity of casino games. However, there’s still enough variety to keep you busy trying out new games for at least a week, but, more importantly, it’s obvious that they have thrust their compensatory efforts into other areas too, like a flawless user experience. The games are simply splendid – striking graphics, excellent sound effects and, overall, impressively immersive gameplay.
Over 70 slot machines offer not only well-known games but also new ones to dip your foot in. Punters with more traditional tastes can dive into table games, either by themselves or in the company of fair and entertaining real dealers – like baccarat, poker, blackjack and, yes, bingo. All games are free to play instantly straight on coral’s website, or on your iPhone or Android phone, bearing in mind that you have created an account.
Promotions are also a strong point of Coral. Yes, they are not in the thousands of euros, like 888 Casino for example, but they come in with great regularity and can give you enough of a push to establish a winning strategy.
Overall, Coral casino thrives amidst excellent competition, and there is a very good reason for that.
Deposit and Withdrawal
No limitations apply with methods of deposit and withdrawal at Coral. The company supports all the common types of payment, such as credit and debit cards, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Prepaid Card, Paysafe, and, of course, cash. All deposits are free of charge and are instantaneous. Minimum deposits are £5, except PayPal where the limit is £10.
For withdrawals, the same methods apply with the time it usually takes to get your hands on your winnings often stretching from 24 hours to 2 days. This is where the Coral connect card becomes extremely useful. You can use it for either make deposits or withdraw your winnings from ATMs.
Security and Licences
As a reputable company with a long history, Coral is a legal betting entity licenced by and following the guidelines of several major gambling regulators – the UK Gambling Commission being one. Coral are also strict followers of fair and socially responsible gambling policies and have been involved in at least one case where they had to pay damages to help customers recover from gambling addiction issues. They supply customers with all the self-regulation tools and channels to help them fight with this important industry-wide issue.
Coral also holds a solid reputation regarding data security. Their database with customer details is protected by encryption, firewalls and other security practices, so they are a trustworthy and safe bookmaker. If we are to mention areas for improvement, we must address their customer service, which could benefit from some improvement.
